TECHNIQUES OF TRADITIONAL MARKETING AND ITS ADVANTAGE & DISADVANTAGE
TRADITIONAL MARKETING
Traditional marketing is one of the earliest methods and approaches to marketing and advertising. There is nothing else to do but to use digital media as a way to market and/or advertise the goods offered by the company through digital marketing.
Another definition to describe the way traditional marketing works would be the process by which the target audience, or customers, finds out about the company and starts purchasing the goods through an online network and/or referral as a way to attain traditional marketing.
Almost all people go through traditional marketing as a way to find out about the company and the products they have to offer, either through the daily paper or even by glancing outside, among many other ways to find out about the specific company and the products they have to provide.

1. PRINT
ADVERTISING
Print media advertising is the oldest type of conventional marketing. It simply means advertising on paper. This strategy has been in use since ancient times, when the Egyptians used to create sales messages and wall posters on papyrus.
Today, print marketing generally
refers to advertising space in newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and other
printed documents intended for distribution.
Print advertising is used for mass and niche advertising purposes. Print media, as a mass advertising technique, reaches almost every demographic and is used for niche advertising to a specific group of people.
2. BROADCAST
ADVERTISING
Broadcast advertising refers to
commercials that are broadcast to the general public via the radio or
television. Businesses purchase space on broadcast media such as television
and radio. Spots generate revenue for stations.
Broadcast advertising reaches a large audience quickly. It brings realism and authenticity to a product because people can see on TV how these products work. It has a shorter life span for its messages than print media and is costlier.
3. TELEMARKETING
Telemarketing is the method of selling,
soliciting, or promoting a product or service over the telephone. The telephone
is the most cost-effective, adaptable, and statistically accountable medium
available. Telemarketing is particularly an effective tool for small
businesses.
Telemarketing is a sales message delivered over the phone with the objective of persuading customers to buy something. Telemarketing has become a somewhat controversial form of marketing in modern times, especially since many telemarketers employ aggressive sales tactics.
4. OUTDOOR ADVERTISING
Outdoor advertising, also known as out-of-home advertising, is a form of advertising that targets consumers outside their homes. Outdoor advertising is effective in promoting a
company's product in certain geographic areas. Any successful outdoor campaign
begins with the company's own location signage.
Its outdoor sign is the first thing a
potential customer usually sees. Its
sign should be bright enough and conspicuous enough to attract attention and
informative enough to let prospective customers know what's sold there. The examples of outdoor advertising are
billboards, signage, transit advertising, point-of-sale advertising, etc.
ADVANTAGE OF
TRADITIONAL MARKETING:
i. EASY TO REACH LOCAL AUDIENCE
It will then have to focus on the particular group of consumers who might not necessarily be using the internet. It can actually cover that particular area by making use of radio and local newspaper ads when its target audience consists of local consumers. It is among the quickest ways of communicating since usually radio ads don't take long to prepare for airing on any particular local radio station.
ii. FACE-TO-FACE CONTACT
Personalized marketing surely is one of the best modes of increasing a company's product and service visibility. There surely is a time and a place when this form of selling will be most appropriate in marketing a product or service.
iii. EASY TO UNDERSTAND
The traditional method may be the only way to reach your old generation. They do not need an explanation of the purpose of these promotional materials because they have used them before. They simply accept traditional forms of advertising.
iv. TRADITIONAL ADS CAN BE KEPT
Traditional marketing still has its charm. Think of the tangible, the print you can hold, skim, and tuck into a bag to read later. It's also recyclable and easy to reuse, benefits that digital copies struggle to match.
v.
IT HAS A HIGH AND PROVEN SUCCESS RATE
So, why are we holding onto these old-school methods when the world is dominated by screens? It's all about trusting and track record-they've earned their reliability over time. Online strategies can cast a wider net across the globe, but that doesn't mean every available customer will be reached.
DISADVANTAGE
OF TRADITIONAL MARKETING:
i. EXPENSIVE
Traditional marketing means high marketing costs. There are production charges for radio advertising, television advertising, press advertising, magazine advertising, flyers, or brochures. Each one of the aforementioned includes the cost of print. Additionally, there are the charges for the professional services of marketing agencies. On the other hand, web advertising can be accessed from all over the world the instant it goes online.
ii. LESS ENGAGING:
It is primarily one-way, with information being conveyed, with limited scope for interaction.
iii. FORCED STRATEGY:
Traditional marketing efforts seem forced. They grab attention less organically and seem more like a hard sell when there isn’t something inherently attention-grabbing about it.
iv. GENERAL, NOT SPECIFIC:
Conventional approaches aim for the masses and lack the personal element in reaching the consumer.
v. SLOW TO UPDATE
Print and television media ads cannot be changed once they hit the market. Online advertising campaigns can change quickly or even daily.
vi IGNORANCE OF TRADITIONAL METHODS
The audience may tune out the information being presented to them, barely acknowledging it—as if casting a brief glimpse at a billboard sign while driving down the street or turning the channel when a commercial comes on.
vii. DIFFICULTY IN MEASURABILITY
Outcome measurement is not an easy task. More often than not, there is nothing to measure audience levels that will indicate just how effective the marketing campaign is.
